DIY Curry powder

Hello everyone,

Curry powder... probably the easiest spice blend to find... but not where I live. I never though one day I would be unable to find curry powder but apparently it is possible. The more I live in Indonesia, the more I discover things I used to find without any problems back in Europe, that are just next to impossible to find where I currently live. Among all those things, curry powder was the last thing I expected not to find. I mean they do have their own version of the curry but the taste is nowhere close to what you expect from a curry, whether it is an Indian, a Thai or any other kind of curry I tried before.

Anyway, the reason why they don't sell curry powder is simple: they do their blend themselves when it comes to it. So I decided to do the same: I started to try some blends and came up with this recipe which is dedicated to the people who somehow cannot get to a curry blend or, wish to do it themselves as a homemade curry blend is definitely better than the one you can find in supermarkets.

Preparation: 5 mn Total time: 5 mn
Difficulty: Very easy

Price: Very cheap

A DIY curry powder that will make you forget about the ones sold in supermarkets.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons coriander
2 tablespoons cumin
1,5 tablespoon turmeric
1 Tablespoon ginger
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Blend all the ingredients together and store in a jar with a lid.

You may use the curry powder with a roux, some coconut milk or some liquid cream depending on the wished consistency and taste.

Variations:
You may add some chili powder to your curry in order to make it taste spicy.
The proportion of ingredient can be adjusted depending on the wanted result.

Enjoy!
